Prior to January 1, 2008, women’s concerns were addressed by the Bishops’ Committee on Women in Society and in the Church. As part of the USCCB reorganization, in 2008 women’s issues became a part of the mandate of the Committee of Laity, Marriage, Family Life and Youth. The work continues to be based on Church teaching about the dignity, equality and gifts of women, especially as articulated in Pope John Paul II’s Mulieris Dignitatem and the U.S. Bishops’ Strengthening the Bonds of Peace.
